Summit Hotels & Resorts Launches Retreat Property in Sikkim
Summit Hotels & Resorts has announced the opening of Summit Signature Retreat Pangthang in Gangtok, marking its entry into the retreat hotel segment in the state of Sikkim. The 38-room property is located on a hilltop in Pangthang and offers views of the Eastern Himalayas, including Mount Kanchenjunga.

Surrounded by pine plantations and mountain landscapes, the retreat is positioned to cater to travellers looking for a quieter and more immersive stay experience. While the property is accessible from Gangtok’s main township by road, its elevated setting is intended to provide a calm environment away from urban activity.

Summit Signature Retreat Pangthang comprises 38 rooms across multiple categories, including superior and deluxe rooms, premium suites, attic suites, and luxury suites. All rooms feature private balconies with views of the surrounding mountains. Selected suites include separate living and dining areas, suited to longer stays. In line with local climate conditions and sustainability considerations, rooms are not equipped with air conditioning or minibars.

Wellness forms a central part of the retreat’s offering. Facilities include a dedicated spa with specialised treatments, as well as designated areas for yoga and meditation. These elements are designed to support rest and relaxation, complemented by the natural setting and open views.
The property also houses a multi-cuisine restaurant serving regional Sikkimese dishes alongside Indian and international options, as well as a sun deck overlooking Kanchenjunga. For meetings and events, the retreat features a banquet hall of approximately 5,000 square feet, with capacity for more than 500 guests, suitable for destination events, retreats, and small social gatherings.
Summit Signature Retreat Pangthang is part of the Summit Signature Series, a segment within the group’s portfolio that focuses on experience-led properties with an emphasis on design, service standards, and destination-led experiences.
Sumit Mitruka, Founder & Managing Director, Summit Hotels & Resorts, said, “Gangtok and the surrounding region are seeing growing interest from travellers who are looking for deeper engagement with nature and a strong sense of place, beyond conventional sightseeing. Summit Signature Retreat Pangthang reflects our evolving approach to destination-led hospitality in the mountains, where wellness, environment, and local context come together in a subtle and thoughtful manner. This opening strengthens our presence in the Northeast and aligns with our long-term vision of developing distinctive destination hotels.”
