IHG Opens First Atwell Hotel in Shanghai
IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) has launched its new lifestyle brand, Atwell, in Greater China with the opening of its first property in Shanghai. The brand focuses on providing comfortable stays designed for guests who enjoy travel experiences with a personal touch.

Atwell’s design includes open spaces with colour accents, curated artwork, and practical amenities that create a homelike atmosphere while adding elements of local culture. Each stay is designed to strike a balance between familiarity and a sense of discovery.
Daniel Aylmer, Chief Executive Officer, IHG Greater China, said, “Travel is moving from simple destination visits to more connected experiences. Younger travellers are looking for authentic, comfortable, and personalised stays. Atwell responds to these needs, while strengthening IHG’s portfolio and long-term plans in Greater China.”

First Opening in Shanghai

Located on Wuning Road in Putuo District, Atwell Suites Shanghai Wuning has 174 guestrooms equipped with multi-functional smart home systems. Selected rooms include bar seating for work or leisure. Details such as hand-painted cups, artisanal snacks, and curated artwork enhance the in-room experience.
Public areas include the streetside B.N.B Café, the Dialecte boutique store, and a combined gym and laundry space. The property aims to provide guests with opportunities to connect with the local community while enjoying everyday conveniences.
IHG’s Expansion in the Lifestyle Segment
Atwell adds to IHG’s growing presence in the lifestyle category, designed to appeal to younger travellers who value individuality and balance. The model focuses on efficiency for owners, supported by IHG’s brand systems, operational processes, and the IHG One Rewards program, which has more than 145 million members.
The debut of Atwell coincides with IHG’s 50th anniversary in Greater China. The brand is expected to expand into tier-one, new tier-one, and other key cities across the region.
