Airbus Launches New Tech Hub in Canada
Canada Tech Hub Supports Airbus Research and Innovation Plans
Airbus has launched the Airbus Tech Hub in Canada, aimed at supporting aerospace research, innovation and collaboration with local industry and academic partners.
Located in Mirabel, the new facility joins the company’s existing global network of technology hubs in South Korea, Japan, Singapore and the Netherlands.
The Canada Tech Hub will focus on three main areas, including sustainable materials, decarbonisation technologies, and manufacturing and operational innovation linked to the A220 aircraft programme and future aviation projects.
Research areas will include recyclable composite materials, titanium recycling processes, fuel cell systems, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) validation, next-generation batteries, electrical taxiing technologies and aerodynamics.
The facility will also support the use of artificial intelligence, industrial robotics and Digital Twin technologies to improve manufacturing and operational processes.
Airbus said the Tech Hub will work with academic institutions, including McGill University and the University of Waterloo, as well as innovation centres such as Centech.
The initiative is also supported by organisations including the Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Energy (MEIE), CRIAQ and Aéroports de Montréal.
Rémi Maillard, Executive Vice President, Engineering, said the Tech Hub is designed to strengthen collaboration between Airbus and Canada’s aerospace and research ecosystem.
The hub will support talent development through dedicated PhD and Master’s programmes focused on aerospace engineering, digital technologies and sustainable aviation research.
The company also plans to launch projects related to aircraft dismantling, circularity, and titanium recyclability in the coming months as part of the new innovation platform.
