Dakshin at ITC Grand Central Mumbai Hosts Pongal Celebration with Traditional South Indian Thali

ITC Grand Central Mumbai is hosting a Pongal celebration at Dakshin, bringing the culinary traditions of the South Indian harvest festival to Mumbai through a specially curated Pongal Special Thali.

Available from 10 to 18 January 2026, the limited-time offering showcases the flavours and culinary traditions of Tamil Nadu. The experience centres on traditional Pongal preparations, served in a structured thali format.

The Pongal Thali begins with customary accompaniments such as appalam, chutney, pickle, and sugarcane, along with rasam prepared with tamarind, tomato, garlic, and pepper. Starters include ennippu paniyaram, made from jaggery-sweetened rice batter, and makka cholai vadai, prepared with corn niblets and lentils.

The main course features a selection of regional dishes, including kadamba poriyal, urulai sothi, murungai motchai kootu kary, poondu kara kozhambu, pasalakkeerai kootu and poosinikai sambar. These are served alongside ven pongal, prepared with rice, lentils, peppercorn and cumin. The thali is accompanied by steamed rice, veechu paratha, appam and curd.

Dessert includes sarkarai pongal, made with jaggery, rice and moong lentils, finished with ghee and dry fruits. The meal concludes with traditional South Indian filter coffee (kapi).

The vegetarian Pongal Thali is the core of the offering, with a non-vegetarian thali available upon special request.
