Thailand announces two major year-end festivals to boost tourism

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has announced government support for two major events: the Colors of the River: Loi Krathong Festival 2025 and Vijit Chao Phraya 2025. These events are aimed at enhancing Thailand’s tourism season through cultural and creative celebrations.

The announcement followed a preview at Government House on 21 October 2025, attended by Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Cabinet members, Minister of Tourism and Sports Mr. Attakorn Sirilatthayakorn, and TAT Governor Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool.

Mr. Attakorn Sirilatthayakorn said, “The government is focused on positioning Thailand as a global tourism hub that connects travel, culture, and experiences. These two events are part of our efforts to support the tourism economy, benefit local communities, and encourage travel during the high season.”

From October to December 2025, TAT will organize a series of cultural and creative events to encourage both domestic and international travel.

The Colors of the River: Loi Krathong Festival 2025 will be held in two UNESCO World Heritage sites.

  • Maha Loi Krathong @Sukhothai: 27 October – 5 November 2025 at Sukhothai Historical Park.

  • Maha Loi Krathong @Ayutthaya: 2 – 6 November 2025 at Wat Phra Ram, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya.

Both venues will feature light and sound presentations and cultural activities inspired by local traditions. TAT will also support related celebrations in Chiang Mai, Tak, Samut Songkhram, and Roi Et.

Vijit Chao Phraya 2025, scheduled from 1 November to 15 December 2025, will feature light and sound shows at 15 locations on both sides of the Chao Phraya River. Key attractions will include a drone show at Rama VIII Bridge every Friday and fireworks displays with coordinated lighting effects at Phra Phuttha Yodfa Bridge every weekend.

Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool said, “These events reflect TAT’s goal to promote Thailand’s cultural heritage and creativity while encouraging visitor engagement throughout the high season. By highlighting traditions and landmark sites, we aim to strengthen Thailand’s tourism appeal and support sustainable growth across the sector.”
