Bangkok Named No.1 City for Gen Z in Time Out’s 2025 Global Ranking

Bangkok has been recognised as the world’s best city for Gen Z, topping Time Out’s first global ranking dedicated to the under-30 generation. The Thai capital outperformed major international cities, earning a City Score of 66% among Gen Z residents – the highest in the survey.

Released on 13 August 2025, the ranking is part of the annual Time Out Index, a global survey of more than 18,000 people. This year’s results highlight the experiences of Gen Z respondents, offering insight into where young people feel most content, connected and supported.

Bangkok ranked highly for happiness, affordability and community. According to Time Out, 84% of Gen Z residents reported being happy living in the city, while 71% described it as affordable – a key factor for a generation navigating global cost-of-living pressures. The city was also rated as the easiest place to make new friends, reinforcing its reputation as a social and welcoming hub.

“This recognition reflects Bangkok’s strong cultural appeal and the environment we continue to foster for young people,” said Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

“It highlights the balance between modern growth and authentic local experiences.”

The Gen Z-focused ranking signals a generational shift in how cities are assessed. With values such as work-life balance, creativity, and inclusivity shaping their choices, Bangkok has emerged as a city where young people can live, work and grow.

Joining Bangkok in the top 10 were cities such as Melbourne, Cape Town, New York and London, further underscoring Thailand’s growing profile as a place not just to visit but to build a lifestyle.
