Anantara Golden Triangle Marks World Elephant Day with Educational Activities and Cultural Tributes
In recognition of World Elephant Day on 12 August, Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort, together with the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation (GTAEF), hosted a day of activities aimed at raising awareness of elephant conservation, improving care, and celebrating the bond between people and elephants.
Observed annually, World Elephant Day highlights the need to protect elephants and their habitats, while advocating for improved treatment of both wild and captive elephants. This year’s celebration coincided with Thai National Mother’s Day, offering an opportunity to honour both mothers and Thailand’s elephants.

The day began with a traditional Blessing Ceremony, where monks offered prayers for elephants, mahouts, guests, and team members. The ritual symbolised respect and harmony, reinforcing the connection between humans and elephants.

An Elephant Education session followed, bringing together mothers, children, and team members with their families. The session, led by the Elephant Camp team, shared insights into elephant behaviour, care, and conservation, encouraging intergenerational learning and a deeper understanding of Thailand’s national animal.

A highlight of the event was the Elephant Buffet – a display of fruits and vegetables prepared for the elephants to enjoy, with guests invited to observe and participate in a relaxed and engaging setting.

“World Elephant Day is an important moment to reinforce the need for elephant conservation,” said Jean Marc Pougnet, General Manager of Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort.
“Through our collaboration with GTAEF, we aim to care for rescued elephants and share knowledge that can help improve management and protection of these animals.”

John Roberts, Group Director of Sustainability & Conservation at GTAEF, added, “World Elephant Day reminds us that conservation is an ongoing effort. Education, awareness, and daily actions all contribute to safeguarding elephants for future generations.”

The event reflects Anantara’s continued work in responsible tourism, supporting ethical elephant experiences, conservation education, and community engagement.
