Thailand Showcases Film Tourism Potential with “Jurassic World: Rebirth” Global Media Event

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has taken a strategic step toward integrating film and tourism by collaborating with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment on a global press event for Jurassic World: Rebirth. The latest addition to the popular franchise, which premiered on July 2, was filmed across the landscapes of Krabi, Phang-Nga, and Trang.

Thirty international media representatives, along with director Gareth Edwards and cast members Jonathan Bailey, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, and Audriana Miranda, visited Thailand from July 30 to August 3. The event began with a welcome dinner at Trisara resort in Phuket and included visits to key filming sites under the themes of “Sea, Land, and Air.” Activities included cliff rappelling at Railay Beach and exploring natural trails, with participants creating original content at each location.

This initiative highlights Thailand’s growing role as a filming location, combining accessible logistics, varied settings, and industry support. The production of Jurassic World: Rebirth alone contributed over 400 million Baht to the local economy and created more than 2,200 jobs across the three provinces, expanding the region’s global visibility.

The event supports TAT’s “Location Thailand” project, which uses entertainment to promote travel. With “set-jetting” on the rise—where tourists travel to destinations featured in films and series—the campaign has generated digital engagement and renewed interest in Thailand’s featured locales.

TAT Governor Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool stated, “Thailand is a preferred destination for international productions—not only for our landscapes but also for our reliable production ecosystem. With skilled crews, modern facilities, simplified permits, and Thai hospitality, we’re proud to support projects that connect viewers with travel experiences. Our work with Universal shows how the film and tourism sectors can support each other in meaningful ways.”

The Jurassic World: Rebirth global media event aimed to merge storytelling with travel by turning filming sites into immersive experiences for influencers and journalists—extending both the film’s reach and Thailand’s tourism message.

Stephanie Lutjens, SVP of Global Marketing at Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, said during the welcome dinner: “None of today’s activities would have been possible without the support of Amazing Thailand and the team at TAT. Their continued efforts to promote Thailand’s tourism and preserve its beauty are truly appreciated.”

According to the Thailand Film Office, the country hosted 279 international productions in the first half of 2025, generating over 2.8 billion Baht in economic activity. The United States led production spending with 1.23 billion Baht, followed by South Korea, France, Singapore, and Germany. India led in production volume with 30 projects. Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Chon Buri, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakan were among the most filmed locations.

TAT’s film tourism plan—built on incentives, facilitation, and international outreach—continues to attract major productions. Alongside Jurassic World: Rebirth, Thailand was the primary filming location for Alien: Earth, premiering August 13 on Disney+ Hotstar. With a budget of over 2.8 billion Baht, it is among the most significant foreign series investments in Thailand in recent decades and involved over 24,000 Thai crew members.

Other titles like The White Lotus Season 3 and Fast & Furious 9 further support Thailand’s position as a leading film destination. By linking on-screen stories to real-world travel, TAT is encouraging global audiences to explore the country beyond the cinema.
