American Airlines Receives 1,000th Mainline Aircraft
As American Airlines approaches its 100th anniversary, the carrier has marked a milestone by receiving its 1,000th mainline aircraft. The Boeing 787-9, featuring the airline’s new Flagship Suite seating, arrived at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) on August 29.
Since April, American has added eight Boeing 787-9 aircraft to its fleet, bringing its total to 30 on order. These aircraft are currently operating on routes including Chicago (ORD) to London Heathrow (LHR), ORD to Los Angeles (LAX), and Philadelphia (PHL) to LHR.
The airline plans to expand the Boeing 787-9’s operations to more London Heathrow flights next year, continuing service from ORD and PHL while adding departures from DFW in November.
In the coming months, the 787-9 will also be deployed on select flights from DFW to Auckland (AKL), Brisbane (BNE), and Buenos Aires (EZE), as well as from PHL to Zurich (ZRH).

“We are excited to grow our fleet, adding even more aircraft that offer customers a premium travel experience,” said Heather Garboden, American’s Chief Customer Officer.
“Looking forward to our next 100 years, we are focused on elevating and reimagining the onboard cabin experience along with every aspect of the customer travel journey.”
