Air India Digitizes Widebody Fleet
Air India Introduces Digital Logbooks for Boeing Fleet
Air India has received approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to use Electronic Technical Logbooks (ETL) as the primary technical document for its Boeing 787 fleet. The regulator has also authorized parallel implementation of the system across the airline’s Boeing 777 fleet.
The move marks another step in Air India’s digital transformation programme, with the airline introducing paperless maintenance records to improve operational efficiency, aircraft maintenance and regulatory compliance.
Digital Maintenance System
The Electronic Technical Logbook replaces traditional paper-based records with a secure digital platform that allows maintenance engineers and operational teams to access and update aircraft information in real time.
The system is designed to improve coordination between teams, speed up defect reporting and rectification, and support more efficient aircraft maintenance and dispatch.
Supporting Engineering Operations
The digital platform also enhances data accuracy, traceability, and regulatory compliance. It provides engineering teams with access to operational data and analytics that can support predictive maintenance and more informed maintenance planning.
The transition to a paperless system will also help reduce paper consumption as part of the airline’s sustainability efforts.
Strengthening Digital Transformation

Jeremy Yew Jin Kit, Senior Vice President – Engineering & Maintenance, Air India, said the implementation of Electronic Technical Logbooks across the airline’s Boeing widebody fleet reflects the collaborative efforts of engineering, flight operations, digital technology teams, aircraft manufacturers and the regulator.
He added that replacing paper-based processes with real-time digital information will improve operational efficiency, maintenance oversight, regulatory compliance and engineering decision-making.
A Step Towards Modern Operations
With the rollout of Electronic Technical Logbooks across its Boeing 787 fleet and expansion to the Boeing 777, Air India continues to modernise its engineering and maintenance operations while supporting safer, more efficient and data-driven airline operations.
