Anantara Opens Kafue River Camp
Anantara Kafue River Camp Debuts in Zambia’s National Park
Minor Hotels has announced the opening of Anantara Tented Camp Kafue River, marking the brand’s first tented safari camp and a new addition to its African portfolio.
Located within Kafue National Park in Zambia, the 13-key property opened in Anantara’s 25th anniversary year and supports conservation efforts led by the Zambian Government and African Parks in one of Africa’s largest protected areas.
Safari Stay in Kafue National Park
Positioned along the Kafue River, the camp is built on elevated timber platforms, allowing wildlife to move freely beneath the property while providing guests with uninterrupted river views.
Visitors can explore the park through activities including game drives, river safaris, guided nature walks, bush picnics and catch-and-release fishing, with opportunities to spot elephants, hippos, antelope, predators and more than 500 bird species.
Sustainable Design
Designed by Meg Ralph Spaces, the camp follows a low-impact approach to hospitality.
The property operates on solar power, uses an on-site water purification and bottling system, avoids single-use plastics and has been built using prefabricated structures to minimise its impact on the surrounding environment. Soft red lighting has also been introduced to reduce disturbance to nocturnal wildlife.
Accommodation and Dining
The camp offers 13 accommodation units, including three Horizon Terrace Suites, nine Pool and Bush Villas, and a 400-square-metre Presidential Villa.
Dining experiences are included throughout the stay, with meals served at Luzuba Harvestry, Twalumba Bar & Lounge and a floating pontoon on the Kafue River. Guests can also take part in Spice Spoons, Anantara’s cooking experience featuring Zambian cuisine.
Wellness in Nature
Guests can enjoy Anantara Spa treatments in the privacy of their accommodation, along with steam facilities, yoga sessions and fitness programmes on a floating Technogym platform anchored on the river.
Birdwatching, stargazing and other nature-based experiences form part of the camp’s wellness offering.
Access to the Camp
Anantara Tented Camp Kafue River can be reached via private charter flights from Livingstone or Lusaka to Chunga Airstrip, followed by a short transfer. The property is also accessible by road from Lusaka International Airport, approximately four hours away.
