Road Trips Rise as Travellers Seek Local Food and Culture This Summer
A new survey from Enterprise Mobility highlights a major travel trend: 60% of Americans are planning road trips for their leisure travel this summer. Notably, many are doing so with a focus on food and cultural experiences.
Exploring Through Food and Curiosity
Nearly half (46%) of summer travellers say they are prioritising local cuisine on their journeys—whether that’s barbecue in Texas, seafood in New England, or soul food in the South. Road trips continue to appeal for the flexibility they offer, allowing travellers to pursue both culinary interests and spontaneous detours.
In addition to food-focused travel, the survey found that 40% of travellers are seeking time by a beach or pool, 39% are drawn to nature destinations such as lakes and mountains, and 33% aim to explore cultural and historical sites.
Choice Hotels has thousands of properties across the country, including locations near beaches, national parks, downtown districts, and historic neighbourhoods. Brands such as Comfort, Quality Inn, Cambria, and Radisson offer a variety of lodging experiences for different travel needs.
Convenience on the Road
With more than 4,000 properties located within a mile of interstate exits, Choice Hotels provides accessible options for road trippers—whether the destination is a local festival or a historic landmark. Properties are designed to offer consistency, value, and convenience.
As many travellers seek to balance costs, the report notes that nearly two-thirds are adjusting their everyday expenses to prioritise summer travel. Choice Hotels provides a range of accommodations for varying budgets and participates in the Choice Privileges rewards program. AAA members can currently access discounts of up to 20% at participating locations for a limited time.
From music in Nashville and art in Santa Fe to farmers’ markets in Asheville, the open road continues to offer diverse experiences. For those travelling to explore local culture and cuisine, Choice Hotels aims to provide lodging options that align with the journey—not just the destination.
