JetBlue and United Clear DOT Review, Move Forward with Blue Sky Collaboration

JetBlue and United Airlines announced that they have completed the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) review of their Blue Sky collaboration and are set to begin implementation.

Both airlines acknowledged the DOT team, including Secretary Duffy and Assistant Secretary Edwards, for their evaluation. Further details about the rollout will be shared in the coming weeks as Blue Sky moves into its next phase.

Blue Sky is a cooperative arrangement aimed at expanding travel options and loyalty program benefits for customers of both airlines. The program is expected to begin offering new features this fall, introduced in phases.

Key elements of the collaboration include:

  • Loyalty Integration:
United’s MileagePlus members will be able to earn and redeem miles on most JetBlue flights. Similarly, JetBlue’s TrueBlue members will gain access to United’s domestic and international routes for point accrual and redemption.

  • Booking Convenience:
Each airline will feature the other’s flights on its website and mobile app through a standard interline agreement, simplifying access to both networks.

  • Reciprocal Loyalty Benefits:
Perks such as priority boarding, extra legroom seating, and same-day standby will be extended to members of both loyalty programs when flying with either carrier.

  • Slot and Timing Agreements:
JetBlue will offer United access to up to seven daily round-trip slots at JFK Terminal 6 beginning as early as 2027. Additionally, the two airlines will exchange eight flight timings at Newark as part of a net-neutral agreement.

  • Technology Collaboration:
United plans to integrate JetBlue’s Paisly platform to power hotel, rental car, cruise, and travel insurance bookings on its website and mobile app, both as stand-alone services and as part of travel packages.
