Thailand Launches Green Tourism Collections to Align with EU Standards and Support Sustainable Growth
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has introduced the Thailand Green Tourism Collections, a key initiative under the broader Thailand Green Tourism for Sustainability programme. The campaign features 20 curated travel routes across 10 selected Green Cities and aligns with the country’s goals under the 2030 Sustainable Tourism Framework and The New Thailand Vision 2026.
Developed in partnership with EU tour operators and Thai public-private stakeholders, the initiative supports compliance with upcoming European Union sustainability regulations, including the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). These regulations will require EU companies to collaborate with tourism suppliers that demonstrate clear and measurable sustainability efforts.
The programme is designed to help Thai operators remain competitive in global markets and enhance long-term collaboration with international travel partners.
Mrs. Chiravadee Khunsub, TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing – Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas, said:
“We created the Thailand Green Tourism Collections in response to shifts in the EU travel market. It brings together certified operators across the tourism supply chain—helping Thai businesses adapt to changing standards while building trusted partnerships.”
The Collections cover seven categories of sustainable tourism: Green Accommodations, Attractions, Activities, Restaurants, Goods, Logistics, and Tour Operators. Participating businesses meet recognised criteria such as certification by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), Green Globe, Green Destinations, or national endorsements like the Thailand Tourism Awards and TAT’s STGs STAR.
The 10 designated Green Cities include Chiang Mai, Nan, Sukhothai, Loei, Nakhon Ratchasima, Bangkok, Trat, Krabi, Phang-Nga, and Surat Thani. These destinations were selected through input from 26 regional and international travel platforms, based on their potential to support inclusive, low-impact tourism experiences.

The curated routes are built around TAT’s “5 Must Do in Thailand” strategy—cultural heritage, local cuisine, soft adventure, sustainable luxury, and community-based experiences.
To encourage local participation, TAT launched the Green Mayor initiative in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Krabi. The programme supports sustainable route planning, community involvement, and destination branding at the municipal level.
Mr. Natthapong Meepokakij, Director of Chom Thong District in Bangkok, said:
“As Green Mayor, I see this as a step toward balancing environmental protection, cultural preservation, and local economic benefit. Our community has a strong foundation for a tourism model that supports these goals.”
The launch event at Phumjai Garden featured a panel with Green Mayors and a preview of one of Bangkok’s featured routes. Guests explored the Bang Khun Thian canal by electric boat, visited local cultural sites, and learned about sustainable farming practices.

To expand international reach, TAT is rolling out promotional activities including product showcases, familiarisation trips for overseas agents and media, and digital campaigns targeting the EU and US markets. Collaborations with influencers, bloggers, and content creators will further amplify awareness.
The Thailand Green Tourism Collections will be formally introduced to global buyers at WTM London 2025, marking a step forward in Thailand’s sustainability-oriented tourism strategy.
Mrs. Chiravadee added:
“Sustainability is a shared responsibility. With collaboration across sectors, we aim to deliver long-term value to communities, visitors, and partners as Thailand moves toward a more balanced tourism model.”
