Glacier Heights on Fire in Sonamarg

According to a statement by the local authorities, a fire broke out at the Hotel Glacier Heights in the Sonamarg area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

Firefighters were rushed to the spot to control the massive blaze, but the hotel still has sustained partial damage. Though police and concerned authorities are investigating the case, the cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained.

A similar fire incident was witnessed in the same Ganderbal area on 10 May 2024 when a fire outburst ended up damaging a hotel cum restaurant named Biryani Hut as well as two shopping complexes nearby. One of the two shopping complexes was a three-floor shopping complex named Taj Complex, whereas the other one was a commercial building which also housed offices of the State Financial Corporation and Pollution Control Board.

Though no human loss was noted in either of the fire incidents, more than ten businesses in the area have been heavily affected by the accidents.
