Minor Hotels Signs Anantara Resort and City Hotel in India

Coorg and Kolkata Projects Mark Brand Expansion in the Country

Minor Hotels has announced its first signings in India under the Anantara Hotels & Resorts brand, with two upcoming properties in Coorg and Kolkata. The projects will mark the brand’s entry into both resort and urban segments in the country.

The Anantara Zanti Coorg Resort, expected to open in 2028, will be located near Madikeri in Karnataka. Set within a forested landscape in the Western Ghats, the 69-key resort will reflect the region’s natural surroundings and local culture. Facilities are expected to include multiple dining venues, a spa and wellness centre, a fitness studio, meeting spaces and a children’s activity area. The property is being developed by Zanti Hospitality.

Commenting on the partnership, Bimal Desai, Chairman of Zanti Hospitality, said the project aims to create experiences rooted in Coorg’s local culture and environment.

The second project, Anantara Kolkata Hotel, is scheduled to open in 2032 as part of the World Trade Centre development in Salt Lake. The 170-key hotel will cater to business and event demand, with facilities including dining outlets, meeting and event spaces, a wellness centre, a gym, and a swimming pool.

The World Trade Centre Salt Lake is being developed through a joint venture between Aryan Realty and Merlin Group. Sanjay Saraf, Co-Chairman of Aryan Realty, noted that the development is expected to contribute to the city’s business and hospitality landscape. Sushil Mohta, Chairman of Merlin Group, added that the partnership with Minor Hotels supports the creation of an integrated business and hospitality destination.

William E. Heinecke, Founder and Chairman of Minor International, said the Coorg and Kolkata projects reflect the brand’s expansion across both resort and city destinations in India.

Expansion Strategy in India

The two signings form part of Minor Hotels’ broader growth plans in India. The company has been expanding its presence through a mix of luxury and premium brands, including Anantara, Avani and NH Collection.

These additions follow the introduction of the Anantara brand in India with a property in Jaipur, as well as the earlier signing of an Avani-branded resort in Visakhapatnam.

Minor Hotels is continuing to build its pipeline in India, focusing on both leisure destinations and key cities. The group is also exploring opportunities across different segments, including select-service and conversion-friendly brands, while primarily expanding through management agreements and franchise partnerships.
