AirAsia Malaysia Launches Johor Bahru–Kunming Direct Route

AirAsia Malaysia (AK) has announced the launch of a new direct service connecting Johor Bahru and Kunming, China. The route reflects the airline’s ongoing plan to expand and strengthen its southern hub in Johor Bahru.

As the only low-cost carrier currently operating commercial flights on this route, AirAsia continues to enhance air connectivity between Malaysia and China. The new service is expected to facilitate travel, business connections, and cultural exchange between Johor and Yunnan Province.

Starting 14 December 2025, AirAsia Malaysia will operate three weekly flights between Johor Bahru and Kunming. This service complements the airline’s existing Kuala Lumpur–Kunming flights, offering travellers in the southern region and nearby Singapore a direct connection to Kunming.

AirAsia Malaysia CEO Dato’ Captain Fareh Mazputra said the new route aligns with the airline’s efforts to expand beyond Kuala Lumpur and strengthen regional gateways across Malaysia. He highlighted that the visa-free travel arrangement between Malaysia and China encourages greater movement of travellers in both directions.

The new route offers convenient access for visitors from China to Johor’s urban attractions, natural sites, and cross-border leisure activities. Travellers from Johor Bahru can also discover Kunming’s mild climate, scenic landscapes, and cultural heritage.

To mark the launch, AirAsia is offering promotional fares starting from RM469* one way from Johor Bahru to Kunming and from CNY678* one way from Kunming to Johor Bahru. Bookings are available on the AirAsia MOVE app and airasia.com until November 23, 2025, for travel from December 14, 2025, to March 28, 2026.
