Emirates Serves Onam-Inspired Menus Onboard
Emirates is marking the Kerala harvest festival until 6 September with authentic Onam dishes served across all cabin classes. Travellers flying between Dubai and Kochi or Thiruvananthapuram will be able to enjoy menus reflecting the flavours of the season.
Customers in all classes will be offered traditional appetisers such as sharkara upperi (banana roasted in jaggery), kaya varuthathu (banana chips), and kondattam mulaku (fried sundried chillies in yoghurt). The selection also includes dips like kaalan made with coconut, yoghurt, and yam, cucumber pachadi, and puli inji (ginger chutney). First and Business Class will additionally feature Kerala-style pappadam and mango pickle.
Main courses include dishes such as alleppey kozhi curry (spiced chicken in coconut sauce) with avial, chemba rice and cabbage carrot thoran; vegetarian sadhya with sambar and kootu; nadan kozhi kari (pan-fried chicken with coconut and spices) with steamed rice; or padavalanga thoran with erissery and beans. First Class menus also include Kerala-style chicken stew.
Desserts offered are palada pradhaman (rice pudding with pistachios, raisins, and cashew nuts) and parippu payasam (lentil pudding topped with coconut flakes). Meals will be presented on banana leaf dish liners to reflect traditional Onam dining.
In addition to the meals, customers can access more than 6,500 channels on Emirates’ ice inflight entertainment, including 15 Malayalam films, 170 Indian titles, regional music albums, and popular TV programmes.
