Zostel Expands to Assam with New Guwahati Property
Zostel Guwahati Opens Ahead of Ambubachi Mela
Zostel has announced the opening of Zostel Guwahati, marking the brand’s entry into Assam and strengthening its presence in Northeast India. Located on the outskirts of Guwahati along the banks of the Brahmaputra, the new property has been launched ahead of the annual Ambubachi Mela, one of the region’s most significant cultural and spiritual events.
The property is situated less than five kilometres from key city landmarks, including the Kamakhya Temple, Paltan Bazaar and Fancy Bazaar. Designed for travellers seeking deeper engagement with the destination, Zostel Guwahati offers a mix of dormitories and private rooms, along with communal spaces that encourage interaction and shared travel experiences.
The hostel also serves as a gateway to some of Assam’s cultural, spiritual and natural attractions. Guests can explore the Kamakhya Temple, visit Umananda Temple on Peacock Island, enjoy cruises on the Brahmaputra River, discover local Assamese cuisine and take excursions to Chandubi Lake and Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary.
The launch coincides with preparations for the Ambubachi Mela, scheduled for 22 to 26 June. Held annually at the Kamakhya Temple, the festival attracts devotees and visitors from across India and beyond. The event is associated with the worship of Goddess Kamakhya and is recognised for its cultural and religious significance in the region.
During the festival period, the area surrounding the temple becomes a hub of activity, with community kitchens and gatherings creating a unique atmosphere for visitors. Guests staying at Zostel Guwahati will have easy access to the celebrations and related cultural experiences.

Aviral Gupta, Chief Executive Officer of Zostel and Zo World, said the opening reflects the brand’s focus on destinations with strong cultural identities and meaningful travel experiences. He added that Guwahati plays an important role as a gateway to Northeast India and provides travellers with access to the region’s diverse landscapes, traditions and communities.
The opening of Zostel Guwahati forms part of the company’s broader strategy to expand into destinations that combine culture, nature, and community-driven travel experiences, while catering to the growing demand for experiential travel across India.
