Thailand and Mexico Mark 50 Years of Diplomatic Relations with Cultural Festival and Travel Campaigns
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, together with the Royal Thai Embassy in Mexico City and partners from both public and private sectors, is marking 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations. As part of the Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025, TAT is intensifying efforts to attract high-spending, long-haul travellers from the Mexican market.

The Thailand Special Deal campaign was launched on 7 August in collaboration with El Palacio de Hierro, Mexico’s premier department store. Offering exclusive travel promotions, the initiative engages affluent Mexican consumers through the retailer’s 31 outlets and over 100,000 credit card members.
Ahead of the launch, TAT held a training session for 30 agents from Viajes Palacio and hosted a networking evening at Galanga House on 6 August, bringing together leading tour operators and media for business discussions and tourism updates.

Festival Mexico 2025 followed on 9–10 August at the National Centre of Arts (CENART) in Mexico City, presenting cultural performances, live art, and interactive workshops. Highlights included a molam show by Molam Idol Band (The Paradise Bangkok Molam International Band), a live mural by street artist TRK (Teerayut Puechpen), and a mask-painting activity blending local artistry with Mexico’s lucha libre tradition.

“TAT is focused on growing the quality traveller segment, and Mexico is an important part of that strategy,” said Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor.
“Our goal is to create meaningful travel experiences that connect with Mexican visitors.”

From 1 January to 3 August 2025, 26,960 Mexican tourists visited Thailand, ranking second among Latin American markets after Brazil. TAT is targeting 51,600 Mexican visitors by the end of the year, a 20% rise from 2024, supported by ongoing promotions and cultural initiatives.
