IndiGo Airlines’ Female-Friendly Seating Policy Now in Effect

Indian low-cost airline IndiGo has announced that it will now allow female passengers to choose seats next to other female passengers. This new policy comes in response to recent disruptive incidents involving unruly passengers, making the travel experience uncomfortable for others on board.

It is specifically tailored for PNRs with female travellers, whether travelling solo or with family

The decision follows a highly publicized incident in 2023, in which a male passenger urinated on an elderly female passenger during an Air India flight. Despite this incident’s attention, similar acts of misconduct have continued to occur.

The responses to the news online have been mixed so far

According to a statement released by the airline and reported by TOI, the new seat selection option will be available during online check-in. The airline stated, “It is specifically tailored to PNRs with women travellers—solo and part of family bookings. This is currently in pilot mode, aligning with our ‘girl power’ ethos.”
