Air India has reduced the maximum free baggage allowance for its lowest fare bracket to 15 kg from 20 kg as part of Tata Group‘s multiple initiatives to turn around the airline that had raked up over INR 50,000-crore losses under government ownership.

Civil aviation regulator DGCA mandates that airlines should allow passengers to carry a minimum 15 kg of free checked-in bags. Air India will allow passengers paying a higher fare under ‘Economy Flex’ to carry 25 kg and offer them other amenities like no-change fees on their tickets.
