Thailand Highlights Thai Pop Culture at Thai Festival Tokyo 2026

Thai Festival Tokyo 2026 Showcases TAT’s Creative Tourism Experiences

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) participated in the 26th Thai Festival Tokyo 2026, held from 9 to 10 May at Yoyogi Park in Tokyo, Japan, showcasing Thai pop culture and creative tourism experiences to strengthen Thailand’s appeal among Japanese travellers.

The opening ceremony was attended by Mr Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, alongside Mr Shimada Tomoaki, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Mr Witchu Vejjajiva, Thailand’s Ambassador to Japan.

Held annually in Tokyo, Thai Festival Tokyo serves as a cultural exchange platform promoting Thai culture, tourism, food, products, and creative industries. The 2026 edition was organised under the theme “Creative Life and Creative Heartbeat” as part of preparations for the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Japan in 2027.

Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of TAT, said Japan continues to remain an important visitor market for Thailand, supported by strong cultural connections and long-standing travel ties between the two countries. She added that the festival provided an opportunity to present Thailand through contemporary cultural experiences, lifestyle activities, and Thai pop culture to connect with younger Japanese travellers.

As part of the event, TAT introduced the “Amazing Thailand: Thai Pop Culture Move” showcase, designed around Thai food, Muay Thai, crafts, music, wellness, and contemporary lifestyle experiences. Developed in collaboration with Thai illustrator Mean Lee, the activation featured colourful, street-inspired visuals and a “soi”-style layout that reflected modern Thai urban culture.

The showcase featured five themed zones. Soi 1 focused on travel information and airline partner activities, while Soi 2 hosted Thai weaving workshops presented by JUTATIP, highlighting local craftsmanship and sustainability. Soi 3 by TOMATO TWINS encouraged visitors to explore Thai food, wellness, art, and T-POP culture through interactive experiences. Soi 4 presented Siam Si fortune sticks in a modern format, while Soi 5 by LONGNUAMBOYZ combined Muay Thai, fashion, and street culture through live activities and performances.

A central stage area, inspired by Thailand’s mobile concert truck culture, hosted live T-POP performances, music, art showcases, and cultural presentations throughout the festival.

The wider festival included more than 170 booths representing Thailand’s public and private sectors, tourism organisations, creative businesses, food vendors, and cultural exhibitors. TAT also confirmed that Thai Festival events are planned across 45 cities in 36 countries during 2026.
