NH Collection Innsbruck Grand Hotel Europa Set to Open in 2029

Minor Hotels has signed NH Collection Innsbruck Grand Hotel Europa, marking the expansion of its portfolio in Austria. The historic hotel, located in the centre of Innsbruck, is scheduled to reopen in 2029 following a comprehensive renovation.

Originally built in 1869, the property was Innsbruck’s first luxury hotel and has long been associated with the city’s hospitality heritage. Situated opposite the central railway station, it has welcomed business travellers, international visitors and notable guests over the years, including Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Albert II of Monaco, and The Rolling Stones.

The renovated hotel will offer around 120 guestrooms and will introduce the NH Collection brand to the Tyrol region. The project is being developed under an agreement with the property owner, Dr Ernst Hutterer, while Christie & Co has supported the operator selection process.

Historic Hotel in Central Innsbruck

The hotel is within walking distance of many of Innsbruck’s cultural and business attractions, including the Golden Roof, Maria-Theresien-Straße, the Imperial Hofburg, the Court Church, the Stadtturm, the Hofgarten, and Congress Innsbruck.

The redevelopment will preserve the building’s historic character while modernising its facilities. Plans include additional guestrooms, new upper floors and a rooftop bar.

Wellness, Dining and Event Spaces

Following the renovation, the property will feature a restaurant and bar with external access, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a wellness area, and dedicated meeting and event facilities.

A key part of the project is the restoration of the historic Baroque Hall, which will once again host events, celebrations and social gatherings.

Strengthening Minor Hotels’ Presence in Austria

The signing adds to Minor Hotels’ growing presence in Austria, where the group already operates hotels in Vienna, Salzburg, and Graz. The addition of Innsbruck expands the company’s footprint into another important city for both business and leisure travel.

Gonzalo Aguilar, CEO of Minor Hotels Europe & Americas, said the project reflects the group’s strategy of expanding through distinctive urban properties while strengthening the NH Collection brand across Europe.

Dr Ernst Hutterer said the aim is to preserve the hotel’s heritage while creating a property that welcomes both international visitors and local residents.
