CFM and IndiGo Expand Partnership with LEAP-1A Engine Agreement

IndiGo has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CFM International for an order of more than 1,000 LEAP-1A engines to power 510 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft, supporting the airline’s future fleet expansion.

The agreement also includes CFM’s support in establishing IndiGo’s upcoming engine Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility, along with a long-term material services agreement covering spare parts supply and maintenance support to improve fleet availability and operational efficiency.

The partnership builds on the long-standing relationship between the two companies, which began in 2016 when IndiGo operated Airbus A320ceo aircraft powered by CFM56-5B engines. In 2019, the airline expanded its partnership by selecting LEAP-1A engines for its Airbus A320neo and A321neo fleet.

Commenting on the agreement, Willie Walsh, Chief Executive Officer Designate, IndiGo, said the continued partnership with CFM will support the airline’s next phase of growth by providing reliable and efficient engine technology for future aircraft deliveries while strengthening operational performance.

H. Lawrence Culp Jr., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of GE Aerospace, said the agreement reflects the long-standing relationship between the two organisations and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting India’s aviation sector through manufacturing, engineering and aftermarket services.

Olivier Andriès, Chief Executive Officer of Safran, said the agreement reinforces Safran’s long-term commitment to India’s aviation industry through continued investment in LEAP engine production and MRO capabilities.

India remains an important market for CFM International, with several Indian airlines operating LEAP-powered aircraft and additional engines on order. The company continues to expand its maintenance and support capabilities to meet the growing demand from airline operators.
