MakeMyTrip Partners with Zomato to Offer Onboard Meal Delivery for Train Travellers
MakeMyTrip has announced a partnership with Zomato, a leading food delivery platform, to provide train passengers with the option to order meals directly to their seats. Passengers booking train tickets through the MakeMyTrip app can now choose from food offerings provided by more than 40,000 restaurant partners listed on Zomato, available at over 130 train stations.
This collaboration comes in response to the growing demand for e-catering services on trains. In the fiscal year 2024-25, over 90,000 rail passengers used Indian Railways’ e-catering services daily, representing a 66% year-on-year increase. MakeMyTrip is working to meet this rising demand with its ‘Food on Train’ feature, which allows passengers to pre-book meals, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks, during their journey. This feature is integrated with MakeMyTrip’s Live Train Status tool, helping travellers place orders at the most convenient times.
Initial feedback from the soft launch with Zomato shows strong interest in meal delivery services. MakeMyTrip plans to implement targeted campaigns to increase awareness and adoption of this service.

Commenting on the announcement, Raj Rishi Singh, Chief Business Officer (Flights, GCC, Corporate Travel) and Chief Marketing Officer at MakeMyTrip, said, “Over the past few years, we have been growing faster than the overall industry in the train booking domain, driven by a sustained focus on customer-centric innovations. With the launch of our Food on Train Marketplace, we are taking another step in enhancing the travel experience by giving passengers greater choice and convenience. This collaboration with Zomato builds on that momentum and will contribute to strategically unlocking one of the fastest-growing consumption opportunities in India’s mobility ecosystem.”

Rahul Gupta, Vice President – Product at Zomato, added, “Our commitment to ‘Serving India’ drives everything we do, and we are constantly looking for ways to make our customers’ experiences seamless and enjoyable. This collaboration with MakeMyTrip enables train passengers to conveniently order meals from their favourite restaurants through the MakeMyTrip platform, with direct food delivery to their seats. We are truly excited about the value this partnership will bring to our customers.”
As part of a Diwali promotion, travellers booking their train journey through MakeMyTrip will receive a complimentary coupon redeemable on Zomato food orders.
MakeMyTrip’s integration with Zomato is part of a broader strategy aimed at enhancing various aspects of train travel through technology-driven features. Passengers can benefit from pre-booking tools such as route extension assistance, suggestions for nearby stations, connected travel plans, and forecasts of seat availability. Flexible booking options like Seat Lock, Trip Guarantee, and Free Cancellation add further convenience. Additionally, post-booking services include on-train food delivery, live PNR updates, and real-time train tracking, all designed to make travel smoother.
Zomato, an authorized partner of IRCTC for on-board food delivery, has successfully completed over 4.6 million orders across 130 railway stations. Passengers can pre-book their meals up to seven days in advance using their PNR details, selecting from a variety of cuisines and price options.
