Kaziranga Heritage Inaugurated in Assam Under Tourism Partnership

A new heritage hospitality project, Kaziranga Heritage, has been inaugurated in Assam near the landscape of Kaziranga. The property was formally opened by Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam, in the presence of government officials and representatives from the hospitality sector.

The project has been developed as a Public–Private Partnership between the Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) and Centre Point Hospitality Group, with the aim of strengthening tourism infrastructure in the region while highlighting Kaziranga’s ecological and cultural landscape.

Located within the floodplains shaped by the Brahmaputra River and Kohora River, the estate has been designed to integrate with its natural surroundings. At its centre is Bonani Bungalow, the historic core of the property, with guest records dating back to 1938, making it one of the early documented hospitality structures associated with tourism in the Kaziranga area.

The estate comprises 28 rooms across multiple heritage-inspired spaces. These include Bonani Bungalow with ten heritage rooms, Bonoshree with eight rooms designed as a cultural salon, Kohora River View cottages overlooking the floodplains, and Kunjobon Presidential Suites featuring private plunge pools and landscaped courtyards. The architecture follows the traditional Assam-type style, incorporating raised plinths, deep verandahs and sloping roofs suited to the region’s climate and seasonal flooding.

The property also includes a 48-seat destination restaurant focused on Assamese cuisine prepared using wood-fired cooking techniques. Its design draws inspiration from the traditional Jaapi, with ceramic detailing created by Assamese ceramic artist Jaya Boro.

Art and history are integrated throughout the estate, with works by Assamese artist Mridu Moshum Bora and archival wildlife photographs associated with conservationist Edward Pritchard Gee. The property also pays tribute to cultural figures Bhupen Hazarika and Zubeen Garg.

Through its focus on heritage architecture, regional cuisine and curated cultural elements, the project aims to contribute to sustainable tourism development in the Kaziranga region.
