IndiGoReach and InterGlobe Foundation Conduct ‘My City My Heritage’ Walk in Puducherry

IndiGoReach, the CSR arm of IndiGo, and InterGlobe Foundation, the philanthropic arm of InterGlobe Enterprises, jointly organised a ‘My City My Heritage’ walk in Puducherry. Themed “Through the French and Tamil Quarters – A Tale of Two Towns,” the experience guided participants through the city’s blend of French architectural influence and Tamil cultural identity.

The walk began at the Notre-Dame-des-Anges Church and led participants through churches, temples, and local markets, offering insights into Puducherry’s heritage, architectural character, and everyday life.

The session was led by Ashok Panda, Heritage Coordinator and Project Manager at INTACH Pondicherry, who has extensive experience in conservation and urban restoration. He was joined by Puviarasan, Founder of Outdoor Being, a conservationist and experiential educator, and recipient of the 2024 Jane Goodall Templeton Prize for India. Together, they shared narratives that highlighted Puducherry’s cultural evolution.

‘My City My Heritage’ is an ongoing campaign by InterGlobe Foundation in partnership with Sahapedia, focusing on creating awareness about India’s cultural and historical heritage. As part of this initiative, heritage walks have previously been conducted across nine cities—Prayagraj, Bhubaneswar, Shillong, Nashik, Hyderabad, Kozhikode, Lucknow, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Ahmedabad.

By exploring its historic quarters, we aimed to encourage appreciation of Puducherry’s layered heritage and support responsible tourism.”

InterGlobe Foundation and IndiGoReach continue to work on heritage conservation projects across India. InterGlobe Foundation’s initiatives include the conservation of Abdur Rahim Khan-I-Khanan’s mausoleum in Delhi, documentation of ten cities, restoration of the ‘Indra Kund’ stepwell in Delwara, tile restoration at Qutb Shah’s Mausoleum, and Heritage Fellowships. IndiGoReach has contributed to the conservation of the Qutb Shahi Heritage Park in Hyderabad and the restoration of interiors at the Lal Bagh Palace in Indore.
