Hyatt Expands California Portfolio with The Georgian Santa Monica
Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced that The Georgian Santa Monica has joined The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, a portfolio of independent hotels recognised for their distinct identity and heritage.

Located on Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, The Georgian has been part of the city’s coastal landscape since the 1930s. Originally developed by Rosamond Borde and designed by architect M. Eugene Durfee, the property reflects design influences associated with the Art Deco period and early Hollywood-era architecture.
Restoration and repositioning
The Georgian Santa Monica underwent a restoration in 2023 led by owner-operator JB Hotel Group. The project included the refurbishment of the building’s exterior, restoration of design elements such as plasterwork and mouldings, and updates to public spaces. Outdoor areas, including terraces and landscaping, were also refreshed to enhance the connection between the property and its oceanfront setting.
Rooms and guest experience

The Georgian Santa Monica features 84 rooms, including 28 suites, with several offering views of the Pacific coastline. Interiors incorporate design references to the building’s original period, alongside contemporary furnishings and amenities.
Dining and social spaces

Dining venues at the hotel include a restaurant focused on seasonal Californian cuisine, a bar offering a selection of classic beverages, and a café space that opens toward Ocean Avenue. These outlets are positioned to serve both hotel guests and local visitors throughout the day.
Cultural and community engagement

The property includes dedicated spaces such as The Library and Gallery 33, which host curated collections and rotating exhibitions. The Library features a selection of books focused on art, culture and regional history, while the gallery showcases works by local and international artists, supporting ongoing cultural programming.
Brand integration
As part of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, The Georgian gains access to Hyatt’s global distribution and reservation systems, as well as participation in the World of Hyatt. The addition also expands Hyatt’s presence in California, joining other properties within the same portfolio across the state.
The move reflects Hyatt’s continued strategy of integrating independent hotels into its collection brands while maintaining their individual character and positioning.

“I am truly delighted that such an iconic and beautiful hotel is joining The Unbound Collection by Hyatt,” said Tamara Lohan, Global Brand Leader – Luxury, Hyatt. “From its unmistakable turquoise façade to its art deco detailing that nods to the glamour of Hollywood’s golden age, The Georgian carries a personality that is both confident and timeless. Our role is to protect and celebrate that individuality — its history, its design, its sense of theatre — while bringing the power and global reach of Hyatt to support its next chapter.”
