Hyatt Expands Its Presence in Portugal With New Hotels Through 2027
As Portugal prepares to welcome a high number of visitors this year, Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced an expansion plan that includes four new hotels scheduled to open across the country over the next two years. Following recent openings in Lisbon and Madeira, Hyatt will continue to grow its presence in key business hubs, leisure destinations, and emerging cultural locations throughout Portugal.
The country’s hospitality and residential investment landscape continues to attract foreign investment, creating opportunities for Hyatt’s steady and well-placed development strategy. The upcoming additions include two lifestyle brands—Andaz and The Standard—positioning Hyatt as an active contributor to Lisbon’s evolving hotel sector and the wider Portuguese market.
Andaz Lisbon

Expected to open in Q1 2026 as the brand’s first property in Portugal, Andaz Lisbon aims to reflect the rhythm and character of the city. The hotel will offer 170 rooms and suites designed with contemporary craftsmanship and local artistic influences. Luzzi, the rooftop restaurant and terrace lounge, will feature modern interpretations of Lusitanian cuisine, while the Andaz Lounge will serve street-food-inspired dishes, cocktails, and Portuguese craft beers. Wellness elements, including a fitness center and quiet spaces for reflection, will also be part of the experience.
The Standard, Lisbon
Scheduled to open in 2026, The Standard, Lisbon will be located in the restored Palácio Santa Clara. Positioned above Alfama, the hotel will combine the building’s heritage with a contemporary design approach. Its 197 rooms and suites, rooftop terrace, spa, and gardens are being developed by Verena Haller and Jaime Hayon, introducing a blend of cultural expression and modern hospitality concepts.
Hyatt will also extend the Hyatt Regency brand in Portugal and other Portuguese-speaking regions.
Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve

Situated near the Vilamoura Marina and well-known golf courses, this hotel will feature more than 250 rooms and suites. Dining venues, a central bar, and outdoor spaces will provide options for guests seeking leisure, sports-related travel, or business stays.
Hyatt Regency Cape Verde Sal

Set to become Hyatt’s first property in Cape Verde, this hotel will be located on the island of Sal. Designed for both leisure and business travelers, the property will offer accommodations and spaces that highlight the island’s natural landscapes and cultural setting.
These developments follow the 2022 opening of Hyatt Regency Lisbon, located in Belém with access to riverside views, cultural sites, and a range of dining and accommodation options.

“Portugal continues to be an important focus for Hyatt’s growth in Southern Europe. With cultural heritage, natural surroundings and modern infrastructure, the country appeals to a wide range of travellers,” said Helena Burstedt, Regional Vice President, Development, Iberia, Hyatt.
“With lifestyle brands such as Andaz and The Standard in Lisbon, we aim to offer experiences that align with the interests of guests, members, and owners. As Portugal develops within the hospitality and residential investment sectors, we look forward to expanding our portfolio across locations that are relevant to our stakeholders.”
