Goa Tourism Growth Supported by Events, Weddings and Domestic Travel

Goa began 2026 with a stable tourism performance, recording around 28.5 lakh visitors between January and March. The figures are close to those seen in the same period last year, which had set a high benchmark for the state.

A key contributor to visitor numbers in the first quarter was the continued development of Goa’s MICE segment. Events such as India Energy Week 2026 brought more than 75,000 delegates, alongside hundreds of exhibitors and participants from over 120 countries, supporting the state’s position as a host for business events. The World Legends Pro T20 League also contributed to visitor inflows, reflecting growing interest in sports-led tourism.

Seasonal festivals, including the Goa Carnival and Shigmotsav, were held across multiple locations, helping distribute tourism activity across regions and supporting local businesses and communities.

Rohan A Khaunte, Minister for Tourism, Government of Goa, said the state’s steady performance reflects consistent demand, supported by large-scale events, destination weddings and domestic travel. He added that travellers are increasingly engaging with cultural and experience-led offerings, contributing to tourism activity beyond traditional beach tourism.

Kedar Naik, Director of Tourism, Government of Goa, highlighted the role of improved domestic connectivity in supporting visitor growth. Expanded direct flight routes linking Goa to cities across India have made the destination more accessible, boosting domestic travel volumes.

Destination weddings continued to support tourism value, particularly during January and February, which coincide with India’s peak wedding season. Demand from domestic and diaspora markets remained consistent, driving occupancy and spending across hospitality services.

Visitor flows remained steady through January and February, while March saw a slight dip influenced by international factors. Global developments, including the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, have contributed to higher fuel costs and affected international travel demand.

Charter operations, now largely consolidated at Manohar International Airport in Mopa, also saw some moderation, reflecting broader changes in travel patterns. However, key source markets such as the United Kingdom, Russia and Kazakhstan continued to generate consistent demand.

Travel preferences are evolving, with a shift towards more personalised and experience-led trips. Goa is also seeing early signs of recovery in the cruise segment, indicating renewed interest in alternative travel options.

With a pipeline of events, improved connectivity and a mix of leisure, business, cultural and sports tourism, the state is positioned to maintain stable tourism activity through the rest of the year.
