Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Signs New Fairmont Calgary, Opening Planned for 2031
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, part of Accor, has announced the signing of Fairmont Calgary in partnership with development group Truman. The new-build property will feature 225 guest rooms and is scheduled to open in Q4 2031.
Planned for a location within Calgary’s Greater Downtown, the mixed-use development will include guest rooms, a spa and wellness offering, and a meetings and events programme designed to support the city’s growing convention demand. The project will also include 100 luxury branded residences.
Fairmont Calgary is expected to benefit from the ongoing transformation of Stampede Park, part of a broader revitalisation of Calgary’s Culture and Entertainment District. The development has been supported by the $500 million expansion of the BMO Centre, completed in 2024, which has increased the city’s capacity to host large-scale meetings and events. The area has also seen infrastructure upgrades, new public spaces, and improved transit connectivity to support visitor growth.

Commenting on the signing, Omer Acar, CEO, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, said the project represents an important addition to the brand’s presence in Calgary, alongside the existing Fairmont Palliser. He added that the new property is intended to serve both travellers and local residents, combining elements of tradition and contemporary design.
The project will involve a team of architects and designers to develop the hotel and branded residences within the same building. The design concept is expected to be announced and the regulatory approvals process initiated in Q1 2026. The development is also expected to support employment during the construction phase, as well as hospitality roles once operational.

George Trutina, President, Truman, said the investment reflects confidence in Calgary’s continued growth and added that the project will contribute to the city’s economy and enhance its visitor appeal across both business and leisure segments.
Calgary continues to attract visitors for its mix of city culture, western heritage, arts and dining, and access to outdoor destinations including Banff National Park. The city is also home to the annual Calgary Stampede, a 10-day festival featuring a rodeo, agricultural events, music programming and a carnival. According to the announcement, Calgary welcomed over 8.7 million visitors in 2025, with expectations of increased visitation in 2026 driven by conferences and international travel.
