Etihad Airways Launches Direct Abu Dhabi–Krabi Service
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) organized a welcome reception at Krabi International Airport on October 9, 2025, to celebrate Etihad Airways’ inaugural flight from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This new route represents a significant advancement in enhancing air connectivity between Thailand and the Middle East, while also promoting Krabi as a key destination for beach, wellness, cultural, and sustainable tourism.
The reception was hosted by Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport. He was joined by Ms. Sasithorn Kittidhrakul, the Deputy Minister of Interior; Mr. Chayatan Phromsorn, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport; Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, the Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand; Mr. Ratthasart Chidchoo, the Governor of Krabi Province; and Mr. Danai Ruengsorn, the Director-General of the Department of Airports. Additionally, representatives from the government and the tourism sector were present at the event.

Passengers on flight EY424, operated by an Airbus A321LR with 160 seats, were welcomed with a traditional Thai performance and souvenirs reflecting the hospitality of the Amazing Thailand brand.

The Abu Dhabi–Krabi route adds approximately 7,650 seats per month, increasing overall capacity between Thailand and the Middle East by about 16 percent. This development is expected to improve travel convenience and support tourism growth in the region.

Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, said the direct connection supports sustainable tourism development in southern Thailand by promoting authentic cultural experiences, environmental responsibility, and community engagement.

Mr. Ratthasart Chidchoo, Governor of Krabi Province, noted that Krabi is prepared to welcome travellers from Abu Dhabi and other markets, offering a mix of natural, cultural, and community-based tourism experiences.
Krabi’s ongoing focus on sustainability adds to its appeal. Earlier this month, Lanta Archipelago National Park was included among Thailand’s 2025 Green Destinations Top 100 Stories, highlighting the Krabi Prototype model supported by TAT.

Ms. Thapanee added that the new Etihad Airways service aligns with TAT’s collaboration with international carriers to improve access to southern Thailand and strengthen engagement with the Middle East travel market. The route supports TAT’s strategy to attract visitors interested in health and wellness, family travel, luxury, and halal-friendly experiences.

To promote the new connection, the TAT Dubai Office has organised a familiarisation trip for Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) from GCC countries to explore Krabi. The itinerary features local gastronomy, cultural activities, and themed routes such as Hidden Gem Cities and Jurassic World: Rebirth film locations, showcasing the region’s diverse tourism offerings.

Between January and September 2025, Thailand welcomed around 618,000 visitors from the Middle East, with arrivals projected to reach 850,000 by year-end. Middle Eastern travellers spend an average of 10 days in Thailand and about 104,000 Baht per trip, reflecting their contribution to the country’s tourism sector.
