American Airlines to Introduce Starlink Wi-Fi on More Than 500 Aircraft From 2027
American Airlines Expands Starlink Wi-Fi Across Narrowbody Fleet
American Airlines has announced plans to introduce Starlink inflight Wi-Fi across more than 500 narrowbody aircraft, with installations expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027.
The airline said the move forms part of its wider efforts to upgrade the onboard passenger experience across domestic and short-haul international routes. The rollout will include Airbus aircraft already in service, as well as upcoming Airbus A321XLR and A321neo deliveries.
Starlink, operated by SpaceX, uses a low Earth orbit satellite network designed to provide faster and more stable internet connectivity during flights. The system is expected to support streaming, online gaming, video calls, browsing and other high-bandwidth activities onboard.

Heather Garboden, Chief Customer Officer at American Airlines, said the airline continues to focus on improving passenger connectivity and comfort throughout the journey.
According to the airline, the upgraded Wi-Fi service is intended to reduce lag and improve reliability for passengers using collaboration tools, streaming platforms and messaging services while in the air.

Jason Fritch, Vice President of Starlink Enterprise Sales at SpaceX, said the partnership will provide passengers and crew with consistent onboard internet access from gate to gate.
American Airlines currently operates more than 6,000 daily flights to over 350 destinations across more than 60 countries.
