American Airlines Introduces Airbus A321XLR with Updated Cabin Experience
American Airlines has added the Airbus A321XLR to its fleet, with the aircraft set to begin service on December 18 between New York (JFK) and Los Angeles (LAX). The airline is the first in the U.S. to operate this aircraft type, which is designed to support both transcontinental and future international routes.
The A321XLR features a three-cabin layout with 20 Flagship Suite seats, 12 Premium Economy seats, and 123 Main Cabin seats. The new Flagship Suite offers lie-flat seating with privacy doors, personal storage, wireless charging, and additional workspace features. Passengers in this cabin will also receive priority airport services and access to the Greenwich Lounge at JFK.

Premium Economy seats include adjustable headrests, footrests, wireless charging, and upgraded meal options. Main Cabin travelers will have access to seatback entertainment and multiple power outlets.

American’s first A321XLR was delivered from Airbus’ Hamburg assembly line on October 22. The airline plans to gradually introduce the aircraft on other routes, including international services starting in 2026.

The addition of the A321XLR marks a step in American’s ongoing fleet modernization, offering enhanced comfort and updated cabin features for travelers across different service classes.
