Alila Mayakoba Opens on Mexico’s Riviera Maya, Marking Alila’s Entry into Latin America
Hyatt Hotels Corporation and RLH Properties have announced the opening of Alila Mayakoba, a nature-integrated luxury retreat located on Mexico’s Riviera Maya. The opening marks the debut of the Alila brand in Latin America and the Caribbean and represents a new chapter for the brand within a resort setting.
Rooted in Alila’s place-led hospitality philosophy, the resort emphasizes wellbeing, cultural continuity, and a strong connection to its natural surroundings. Architecture open to nature, engagement with living Mayan traditions, and an intentionally paced guest journey define the overall experience.
A Resort Expression of the Alila Brand
Conceived as a full resort interpretation of the Alila brand, Alila Mayakoba brings together Caribbean beachfront, lagoon waterways, and mangrove landscapes. Located within the Mayakoba enclave, the property spans 60 acres of beachfront, jungle, and lagoon and includes 182 guestrooms, suites, and villas, many with private pools integrated into the natural environment.
The resort offers six dining venues, including the return of Casa Amate, along with Spa Alila at Mayakoba, where treatments are informed by Mayan knowledge systems. The overall atmosphere is shaped by material simplicity, calm spatial planning, and close ties to the surrounding landscape.

Patrick Schori, General Manager of Alila Mayakoba, noted that the resort is designed to encourage presence and ease from arrival, with landscapes, architecture, and sensory details reflecting both Alila’s philosophy and the cultural context of the Riviera Maya.
Design Guided by Environment and Craft
Guestrooms and suites are designed as private sanctuaries that blend indoor and outdoor living. Terraces, natural materials, and a colour palette inspired by mangroves, waterways, and coastal light contribute to a sense of balance.
Interiors by Huber Design incorporate materials native to the Yucatán Peninsula, including locally sourced tropical hardwoods such as tzalam, parota, and rosa morada, as well as hand-chiselled Mérida limestone and reclaimed travertine. Custom furniture and decorative elements, developed with regional artisans, reflect local craftsmanship and functional simplicity.
The resort layout follows two distinct rhythms. Lagoon-facing areas offer quieter spaces for reflection and small-group stays, while beachfront zones provide a relaxed setting suited to families and social gatherings.
Wellbeing Shaped by Living Mayan Traditions
Wellbeing at Alila Mayakoba is embedded in the resort’s identity rather than positioned as a standalone amenity. The approach has been developed in collaboration with local therapists, philosophers, and Mayan elders to ensure cultural continuity and relevance.
Arrival rituals include a welcome beverage made with coconut water, Melipona honey, and regional botanicals, followed by a clay-and-honey cleansing ritual inspired by traditional practices. Throughout the stay, guests can participate in Alila Moments—guided experiences that encourage reflection, participation, and cultural understanding.
Signature experiences include Earth and Clay purification rituals, cenote-based journeys focused on renewal, and water ceremonies led by Mayan elders. Spa Alila at Mayakoba further extends this philosophy through treatments aligned with the Tzolk’in calendar, temazcal journeys, sound immersions, and daily rituals. A Technogym-equipped fitness space supports personalized movement and performance assessment in a natural setting.

Tamara Lohan, Global Brand Leader – Luxury at Hyatt, described Alila Mayakoba as a clear expression of the brand’s philosophy within its Mexican context, highlighting its focus on culture, wellbeing, and place.
Dining Rooted in Regional Context
Dining at Alila Mayakoba reflects local ingredients, regional heritage, and varied dining rhythms:
Alisio Beach Club offers beachfront dining from daytime coastal fare to evening live-fire seafood and Mediterranean-influenced dishes.
Casa Amate returns as an intimate dining venue inspired by global travel and home-style settings.
Chef’s Atelier, El Huerto is a 12-seat chef-led experience centered on a circular, zero-waste approach using ingredients grown on-site.
Na Cocina Local provides all-day dining focused on regional flavours with both spirited and zero-proof cocktails inspired by Mayan cosmology.
Ninguno Taqueria presents open-air, beachside interpretations of traditional street food.
Xiim Bar transitions from a daytime café near the cenote to an evening bar specializing in tequila, mezcal, and botanical drinks.
Gatherings and Celebrations
Event spaces at Alila Mayakoba are designed for weddings, private ceremonies, and meetings, with settings ranging from beachfront and lagoon-side locations to indoor venues. Each space is planned to maintain a connection to the natural environment while accommodating a range of gathering styles.

Luis Duran, CEO of RLH Properties, described the opening as an important step in the group’s collaboration with Hyatt and an extension of its long-term presence in Mexico’s luxury hospitality sector, coinciding with Mayakoba’s 20th anniversary.
Inaugural Stay Offer
To mark its opening, Alila Mayakoba has introduced an Inaugural Stay Offer that includes pre-arrival planning support, round-trip airport transportation, a choice of selected wellbeing experiences, and access to the resort’s hydrotherapy facilities. The offer is available for bookings made by May 31, 2026, for stays through December 31, 2026.
