Frankfurt Airport Handles 5.7M Passengers

Frankfurt Airport Reports June Traffic and 2026 Outlook

Frankfurt Airport welcomed 5.7 million passengers in June 2026, a 1.7% decline compared with the same month last year, according to airport operator Fraport.

Passenger demand remained strong on routes across southern and northern Europe, as well as destinations in the Far East, Africa and Latin America. Travel to the Middle East continued to recover, although passenger numbers for the region remained below last year’s levels.

Passenger Traffic in the First Half of 2026

Between January and June 2026, Frankfurt Airport handled approximately 28.9 million passengers, a 0.8% decrease year-on-year.

Fraport said traffic to the Middle East was affected by the conflict involving Iran, with passenger numbers to the region falling by 35% during the first half of the year. In contrast, travel to Africa increased by 8%, while Far East destinations recorded 6.4% growth.

Financial Outlook Remains Unchanged

Fraport Chief Executive Officer Dr Stefan Schulte said several factors affected passenger traffic during the first half of the year, including strikes at Lufthansa, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and higher oil prices, which influenced booking demand.

Despite these challenges, the company expects passenger volumes at Frankfurt Airport to remain broadly in line with 2025 levels for the full year. Fraport also maintained its 2026 financial outlook, supported by continued growth across its international airport portfolio.

Cargo and Flight Movements

Frankfurt Airport handled 177,676 metric tonnes of cargo in June, an increase of 2% compared with the previous year.

Aircraft movements totalled 39,390 during the month, down 4.9%, while total maximum take-off weights declined by 2.3%.

International Airports Continue to Grow

Several airports within Fraport’s international network recorded passenger growth during June.

  • Ljubljana Airport, Slovenia: 184,211 passengers (+12.7%)
  • Fortaleza and Porto Alegre, Brazil: 1.2 million passengers (+2%)
  • Lima Airport, Peru: Around 2 million passengers (+0.9%)
  • 14 Greek Airports: 5.6 million passengers (+4.7%)
  • Burgas and Varna, Bulgaria: 593,964 passengers (+8%)

Passenger traffic at Antalya Airport in Türkiye declined 9.6% to 4.5 million passengers, with Fraport citing higher tourism costs and reduced demand linked to geopolitical uncertainty.

Across all airports managed by Fraport, passenger traffic reached 19.7 million in June 2026, while total passenger numbers for the first half of the year increased 1% to 77.7 million.
