Saudia Expands Fleet with Airbus A321XLR Delivery

Saudia has taken delivery of its first Airbus A321XLR, becoming the first airline in the Middle East and Africa region to operate the aircraft type.

The aircraft is powered by CFM International LEAP-1A engines and is the first of 15 A321XLR aircraft ordered by the airline as part of its ongoing fleet modernization plans.

The addition of the A321XLR supports Saudia’s international expansion strategy and aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 plans to strengthen tourism, aviation connectivity, and visitor growth across the Kingdom.

Saudia currently operates flights to more than 100 destinations across four continents, and the A321XLR is expected to support the launch of additional long-range international routes using a single-aisle aircraft platform.

The aircraft offers a flying range of up to 4,700 nautical miles, allowing airlines to operate longer routes that were traditionally served by larger widebody aircraft.

Inside, the aircraft features a two-class configuration with 24 full-flat Business Class seats offering direct aisle access and 120 Economy Class seats. The cabin also includes Airbus’ Airspace design with larger overhead storage, updated lighting systems, and quieter interiors.

The delivery also marks another step in the long-standing partnership between Airbus and Saudia, which began with the airline’s first Airbus A300 delivery in 1984.

The A321XLR is part of the Airbus A320neo Family and has been developed to improve fuel efficiency and operational flexibility. According to Airbus, the aircraft delivers lower fuel consumption per seat compared to earlier-generation aircraft while also reducing emissions and noise levels.

Airbus has stated that all its aircraft currently operate with up to 50 per cent sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), with plans to increase capability to 100 per cent SAF by 2030.

The Airbus A320 Family has recorded more than 19,900 orders globally from over 300 customers.
