Thailand Introduces Ebola Screening Measures for Travellers from Risk Areas
Thailand Ebola Screening Rules Begin at Airports, Borders and Seaports
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has announced new Ebola virus disease screening measures for travellers arriving from identified risk areas. The measures came into effect on 21 May 2026 and apply at all international airports, land border checkpoints, and seaports across Thailand.
The screening applies to travellers who have recently stayed in, travelled through, or arrived from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and other affected areas where cross-border transmission has been reported within 21 days before entering Thailand.
The move follows the World Health Organization’s classification of the Ebola outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo virus as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
Before travelling to Thailand, foreign nationals arriving from affected regions must complete registration through the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC). Thai nationals travelling from these areas are required to register via the Thai Health Pass at airline check-in.
Travellers from affected regions are also advised to carry a Fit to Fly medical certificate confirming they are not experiencing symptoms associated with Ebola virus disease.
Airlines operating flights to Thailand have been instructed to conduct passenger screening before departure and to submit passenger information to communicable disease control officers prior to arrival.
Upon arrival in Thailand, travellers from identified risk areas may undergo temperature checks, symptom screening, and travel history verification.
At present, there is no quarantine requirement for travellers without symptoms. However, individuals arriving from affected areas must complete 21 days of self-monitoring and submit daily health updates to Thai health authorities.
Travellers who develop symptoms including high fever, vomiting, or diarrhoea may be referred to hospital isolation units for medical observation and laboratory testing.
Thai authorities have also advised citizens to avoid non-essential travel to affected countries. Those required to travel are encouraged to register with the Royal Thai Embassy in their destination country and follow local health regulations.
The measures will remain in place until further notice from Thai health authorities and the World Health Organization.
Travellers seeking additional health information can contact Thailand’s Department of Disease Control hotline at 1422.
