Golden Dragon at Taj Coromandel Chennai Welcomes the Year of the Horse with a Special Chinese New Year Menu
This Chinese New Year, Golden Dragon at Taj Coromandel invites guests to welcome the Year of the Horse with a specially curated festive menu inspired by traditional symbolism and Cantonese culinary practices. The dining experience reflects themes of progress, confidence, prosperity, and togetherness associated with the Year of the Horse.
A long-established part of Chennai’s dining landscape, Golden Dragon is known for its focus on Sichuan and Cantonese flavours. To mark the Chinese New Year, the culinary team has introduced a limited-time menu featuring classic Chinese preparations and seasonal ingredients.
The menu begins with warming soups, including Double Boiled Monkey Head Mushroom Broth with cilantro, carrots, and sesame oil, and Shi Hu Lamb Soup with minced lamb, tomatoes, and egg drop. These are followed by Chicken and vegetarian Shuijiao dumplings.
Main course selections include Braised Duck with Chilli Bean, cooked with garlic and sesame, and Pulled Duck Spring Rolls filled with roast duck, blanched greens, garlic, and sesame. Seafood dishes feature Tiger Prawns in XO sauce and Lobster with Ginger Scallion, finished with Shaoxing rice wine and sesame. Meat-based offerings also include Koi Rou—pork belly steamed with bok choy, soy, and fresh red chillies—and Hang Zhou Tenderloin stir-fried with okra and young green chillies.
Vegetarian options include Kong Cin Chai, morning glory tossed with garlic and dry red chillies, and Silken Tofu in Fresh Chilli Sauce with coriander, garlic, and fresh red chillies. These are complemented by Steamed Longevity Noodles and Moon Fan jasmine rice scented with Chinese five spice.
Desserts conclude the meal with Water Chestnut, Fruit, and Lotus Dim Sum; Pineapple Sweet Chilli Ice Cream; and Chocolate and Banana Crèmeux, served with candied walnuts and salted caramel.

The festive menu is paired with a selection of beverages. Cocktail offerings include Rose Mary Gin Fizz, Dragon Wall made with vodka, dragon fruit jam and jasmine tea, and Cherry Moon with cherry vodka and lemon-lime soda. Non-alcoholic options include Cucumber Lemonade Huanggau, with cucumber, lemongrass syrup, and lime, and Lychee Delight, with lychee juice, passion fruit syrup, and lime.
Golden Dragon offers a setting for guests to celebrate the Chinese New Year through food and shared dining experiences as they usher in the Year of the Horse.
