Polo Hotels Group Plans Five-Star Hotel Project in Silchar
The Assam Cabinet has approved a proposal to develop a five-star hotel in Silchar, marking a new addition to the hospitality infrastructure in Southern Assam. The project will be developed by Polo Hotels Group with an investment of approximately ₹103 crore.

Announcing the decision, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state government has given approval to Polo Hotels Group to construct the five-star hotel in Silchar. According to the announcement, the project will represent the first hotel of this category in the city.
The development aims to strengthen the capacity for tourism, business travel, and event hosting in the Barak Valley region. Silchar serves as an important commercial and administrative centre in Southern Assam, and the project is expected to support the city’s growing travel and business requirements.
Hospitality Facilities Planned
The proposed hotel will include around 100 rooms and suites designed to meet international hospitality standards while incorporating elements that reflect the cultural identity of the Barak Valley.
Facilities planned for the property include multiple restaurants and bars, a swimming pool, spa and wellness facilities, a fitness centre, and banquet and conference spaces. These venues are expected to support corporate meetings, exhibitions, weddings, and government-related events.
Demand for hospitality infrastructure has been increasing across India in recent years. Tourism data indicates that India recorded more than 2.3 billion domestic tourist visits in 2023. At the same time, the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) segment has been expanding in several emerging regional cities.
Polo Hotels Group Expansion
The Silchar project forms part of Polo Hotels Group’s broader expansion strategy across Eastern and Northeastern India.
In addition to the Silchar development, the company is currently working on several new hotel projects across Meghalaya, Tripura, West Bengal, and Nagaland. These developments are expected to expand the group’s presence across the region.

Deval Tibrewalla, Chief Executive Officer of Polo Hotels Group, said Silchar plays an important role as a gateway city in Northeast India and requires hospitality infrastructure that supports its growing economic and institutional activity. He noted that the project is intended to contribute to the next phase of development in the Barak Valley while expanding the company’s presence in the region.
Economic and Employment Impact
Hotel developments of this scale typically contribute to local economic activity. Industry estimates suggest that each hotel room can generate around two direct jobs, in addition to indirect employment in areas such as food supply chains, transportation, event management, and local services.
The Silchar hotel project is therefore expected to create employment opportunities and support local businesses and service providers in the Barak Valley.
Supporting Tourism and Business Travel
Once operational, the hotel is expected to enhance Silchar’s ability to host conferences, meetings, corporate events, and social gatherings that require large venues and accommodation.
The project also reflects a wider trend within India’s hospitality sector, where emerging cities are gradually attracting new hotel developments to support tourism growth and business travel demand.
