Marriott International and V&A Waterfront Holdings Sign Agreement to Open The Cape Town EDITION in 2026
Marriott International and V&A Waterfront Holdings have announced a signed agreement to open The Cape Town EDITION at the V&A Waterfront in 2026. The project will introduce the EDITION Hotels brand to Africa.
The development aligns with Marriott International’s expansion strategy in the Middle East and Africa region and reflects growing investment in Cape Town’s hospitality market. The hotel will be located within the V&A Waterfront, a major mixed-use destination that combines tourism, retail, dining, and residential offerings.
The Cape Town EDITION is planned to feature 142 guest rooms and suites, alongside multiple dining venues, including a rooftop bar. Additional facilities are expected to include a spa, swimming pool, meeting and event spaces, and a range of social areas designed to reflect the city’s cultural and urban character.
The project will also include The Residences at The Cape Town EDITION, comprising six private residences. These homes are designed to integrate contemporary design with understated interiors that align with the EDITION brand’s positioning.
Shanghai-based architectural firm Neri & Hu has been appointed to design the hotel and residences, working in collaboration with local architecture and design studio StudioMAS. The design approach aims to balance modern architecture with references to the local context.

Situated near the Granger Bay development, the property will offer views of the Atlantic Ocean, the City Bowl, and nearby landmarks including Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, and Signal Hill. Guests and residents will have access to the wider V&A Waterfront precinct, which includes public spaces, dining and retail areas, event venues, marina facilities, and a waterfront promenade.
Upon completion, The Cape Town EDITION is expected to strengthen Cape Town’s position as a key destination for international travellers while expanding Marriott International’s luxury portfolio on the African continent.
