The Maldives has been announced as the Official Host Country for ITB Berlin 2027, bringing the island nation into focus at the global travel trade event. The announcement was made during ITB Berlin 2026 in Berlin.

The agreement was formalized at the Maldives stand in Hall 5.2, where Ibrahim Shiuree and Mario Tobias signed the partnership during an official ceremony.

Speaking at the event, Tobias said the Maldives’ return as Host Country highlights the long-standing relationship between the destination and ITB Berlin. He added that the 2027 edition will provide an opportunity to present the country’s tourism offerings and its approach to tourism development and environmental responsibility.

During ITB Berlin 2026, Visit Maldives representatives, including CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree and Chairperson Abdulla Ghiyas, also spoke with industry media about the destination’s tourism plans.

Located in the Indian Ocean, the Maldives comprises more than 1,000 islands, known for lagoons, coral reefs and island-based tourism. The country’s tourism sector includes resorts, guesthouses on local islands, diving and water sports, wellness retreats, and cultural experiences.

As Host Country of ITB Berlin 2027, the Maldives plans to highlight different segments of its tourism industry, including resort stays, diving experiences, water sports and community-based tourism initiatives. The government of the Maldives has designated 2027 as Visit Maldives Year 2027, a national initiative aimed at promoting the country’s tourism sector.

Announced by Mohamed Muizzu, the programme will involve global marketing campaigns, participation in international travel events, roadshows and digital promotions. The initiative is intended to highlight the country’s natural environment, cultural heritage and tourism offerings while supporting the continued development of the sector.
