IHCL Signs Taj Hotel Project in Patna, Bihar
Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has announced the signing of a new Taj Hotels property in Patna. The project will be developed as a greenfield hotel and will expand IHCL’s presence in Bihar.

Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of IHCL, said the project reflects the company’s focus on growing its presence in emerging urban markets.
“Patna is developing as an important urban centre supported by improved connectivity and infrastructure. The city offers opportunities for business travel, large events and celebrations. The signing of this Taj hotel strengthens our presence in Bihar and continues our partnership with Patliputra Palace Pvt. Ltd.,” he said.
Hotel planned near Gandhi Maidan
The upcoming Taj Patna will feature 500 rooms and will be located opposite Gandhi Maidan, with views towards the Ganges River.
The hotel is planned with multiple dining venues, including an all-day dining restaurant, two speciality restaurants and a lobby lounge.
Facilities will include a temperature-controlled swimming pool, fitness centre, recreation areas, a salon and the brand’s J Wellness Circle spa.
Meeting and event facilities
The property will include extensive event and meeting spaces designed for conferences and social gatherings. A 16,000-square-foot ballroom will form the centrepiece of the event facilities, supported by additional meeting rooms and event areas.
Nityanand Sonthalia, Director at Patliputra Palace Pvt Ltd., said the project strengthens the company’s partnership with IHCL.
“We are pleased to continue our collaboration with IHCL through this development. The project reflects growing interest in hospitality infrastructure and private sector investment in Bihar,” he said.
Patna’s cultural and historical significance
Patna is one of India’s historic cities and serves as a gateway to several cultural and religious sites across the state. Key landmarks in the city include Gandhi Maidan, Bapu Sabhagar and the historic Golghar.
With the signing of the Taj hotel in Patna, IHCL’s portfolio in Bihar will increase to seven hotels, including four currently under development.
