JA Resorts & Hotels Expands into the UK with Two Heritage Scottish Properties
JA Resorts & Hotels has expanded its portfolio with the addition of Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort, a 240-acre estate outside Glasgow, and The Bruntsfield, a boutique hotel in central Edinburgh. These properties join the brand’s collection of resorts and lifestyle hotels in Dubai and the Maldives, supporting its repositioning as a destination-focused hospitality group.
This development marks JA Resorts & Hotels’ entry into the UK market and a step in its international growth, supported by parent company Dutco Group. The brand, with more than four decades in hospitality, is known for its guest-first approach and emphasis on location-led experiences. The UK expansion reflects diversification beyond the UAE and Indian Ocean, with a focus on maintaining each property’s individual character and heritage.

Each hotel in the JA portfolio — from JA Hatta Fort Hotel to JA Palm Tree Court and JA Manafaru- is shaped to reflect its surroundings. Mar Hall and The Bruntsfield were selected for their heritage and connection to their Scottish settings, aligning with the group’s focus on authentic, location-based hospitality.
Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort
Designed in 1828 by Sir Robert Smirke, the architect of London’s British Museum, Mar Hall is a 5-star hotel on the banks of the River Clyde. Acquired by Dutco Group in 2024, the property underwent a £25 million refurbishment before reopening in May 2025. The hotel offers 74 guest rooms and suites, two restaurants, two bars, and restored public spaces including a staircase, private cinema, gaming room, and billiards room.
The Bruntsfield
Located in Edinburgh’s historic city centre, The Bruntsfield is a Baronial-style townhouse built in 1861. It is close to landmarks such as Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile. Following a £1 million refurbishment in 2022, it features 72 rooms, a restaurant and bar, a heated garden, and event facilities. Holding a Gold Green Tourism accreditation, the hotel has plans for further upgrades under Dutco Group ownership from 2024.
