Fairview Hotel Nairobi Joins IHG’s Vignette Collection, Marking Africa Debut
Fairview Hotel Nairobi has joined Vignette Collection, becoming the first property in Africa to enter the brand and the first on the continent within IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio. The 99-room boutique hotel is located in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area and is widely recogniZed for its garden-focused setting within an urban environment.
Vignette Collection is positioned around the idea of combining individuality with a sense of belonging, allowing each hotel to retain its distinct identity while being part of a global portfolio. Fairview Hotel Nairobi is an urban retreat characterized by heritage architecture and landscaped gardens in the centre of the city.

Kaliq Essop, General Manager of Fairview Hotel Nairobi, Vignette Collection, said the partnership allows the hotel to respect its history while refining the guest experience through design, service, and purpose-led hospitality. He added that the property remains rooted in Kenyan identity and heritage.
The hotel’s architecture reflects early 20th-century influences, incorporating Nairobi bluestone, botanical gardens, arched windows, wrought-iron detailing, spiral staircases, and interior courtyards. Facilities include 99 renovated rooms and suites, an outdoor swimming pool, a fitness centre, and nine meeting and event spaces, including the underground Pango Wine Cellar for smaller gatherings.
Dining and social spaces include three restaurants—Mukutan, Pwani, and Giuseppe—each offering distinct culinary concepts. Additional venues include Atrium Coffee, located in the lobby and serving light meals and beverages, and the Nthome Fireplace, a lounge designed for informal socialising.
Introduced three years ago, Vignette Collection has reached more than half of its initial target of 100 open and pipeline hotels within 10 years. Fairview Hotel Nairobi joins 27 Vignette Collection properties currently operating worldwide, with a further 41 hotels in development.

Haitham Mattar, Managing Director for India, Middle East and Africa at IHG Hotels & Resorts, said the signing reflects IHG’s continued focus on expanding its collection brands in the region. He noted that Vignette Collection provides independent hotels with access to IHG’s scale and loyalty ecosystem while allowing them to maintain their individual character.
Each Vignette Collection hotel participates in two core brand pillars: Memorable Rituals and A Means For Good. At Fairview Hotel Nairobi, the Memorable Rituals programme includes SimuStories, an interactive storytelling experience that uses vintage telephones in the lobby to share narratives from the hotel’s history.

Under A Means For Good, Fairview Hotel Nairobi has partnered with the Kenya National Library Service to support literacy initiatives. The programme includes guest book donations and participation in national community reading activities, involving both guests and hotel colleagues.
As part of Vignette Collection, Fairview Hotel Nairobi also participates in IHG One Rewards, allowing guests to earn and redeem points across IHG’s global portfolio.
The Nairobi property joins other Vignette Collection hotels in the Middle East, including Th8 Palm Dubai Beach Resort, Arabella Beach Hotel Kuwait, Aldhafra Resort in the UAE, and Ciel Dubai Marina.
