IHG Signs Crowne Plaza Lumbini, Expanding Presence in Nepal
IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced a management agreement with Lumbini Heritage Limited for the Crowne Plaza Lumbini, scheduled to open in 2026. This agreement marks the second Crowne Plaza development in Nepal, supporting the brand’s ongoing expansion throughout South Asia.
The upcoming hotel, situated in Lumbini—a UNESCO World Heritage site and a renowned spiritual destination—will cater to both leisure and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) travelers. It aims to attract visitors from nearby Indian states such as Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The hotel will be approximately four kilometers from the main pilgrimage site and 18 kilometers from Gautam Buddha Airport, providing convenient access for guests.
Once operational, Crowne Plaza Lumbini will feature 137 guest rooms and 10 suites, alongside versatile meeting and event spaces, including a banquet hall suitable for a range of functions.
Commenting on the announcement, Sudeep Jain, Managing Director, South West Asia, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “We are pleased to expand our presence in Nepal with Crowne Plaza Lumbini. The destination holds deep cultural and spiritual value, and this development supports our commitment to growing IHG’s footprint across key markets in the region.”
Subhash Amatya, Chairman, Lumbini Heritage Limited, added: “Partnering with IHG marks an important step in our effort to introduce internationally managed hospitality to Lumbini. The new Crowne Plaza will offer a comfortable environment for both domestic and international travellers.”
Crowne Plaza hotels are designed to support both work and leisure travel, offering adaptable spaces for meetings, relaxation, and dining. The brand’s Plaza Workspace concept and WorkLife Room design reflect its focus on flexibility and balance for modern travellers.
IHG currently operates 51 hotels across six brands in India, including Six Senses, InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, voco, Holiday Inn Resort, and Holiday Inn Express, with 72 additional hotels in the development pipeline across South West Asia.
