IHG Hotels & Resorts Signs Holiday Inn Express & Suites Madurai
IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced the signing of a management agreement with Chentoor Hotels Pvt Ltd for the development of Holiday Inn Express & Suites Madurai. The hotel is scheduled to open in early 2029 and represents a further step in IHG’s expansion across South India, with a focus on emerging secondary markets.
The upcoming hotel will be located near Madurai International Airport and will feature 150 rooms, including 30 suites. Its location is expected to support demand from a wide range of travellers visiting the city for religious, business, and regional travel purposes.
Madurai recorded more than 27 million visitors in 2024, driven largely by its importance as a pilgrimage centre and its association with the Meenakshi Amman Temple. The city also serves as a key airport gateway to destinations such as Rameswaram and Kanyakumari. Alongside tourism, Madurai has seen steady commercial and infrastructure development, including the growth of IT/ITES activity and industrial projects, which have contributed to rising business travel.
Holiday Inn Express, part of IHG’s global brand portfolio, is positioned to meet the needs of modern travellers seeking efficient and comfortable stays. The brand’s Generation 5 design emphasises functional layouts, flexible public spaces, and consistent in-room features, making it suitable for cities that attract both business and leisure demand.

Commenting on the signing, Sudeep Jain, Managing Director, South West Asia, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “We are pleased to expand our presence in Tamil Nadu with the signing of Holiday Inn Express & Suites Madurai. Madurai continues to see steady demand across business, transit, and leisure segments. The hotel’s proximity to the international airport and developing commercial areas supports our approach of growing in well-connected, demand-driven markets. We look forward to working with Chentoor Hotels Pvt Ltd on this project.”
A spokesperson for Chentoor Hotels Pvt Ltd added: “We are glad to partner with IHG Hotels & Resorts to bring Holiday Inn Express & Suites to Madurai. The city’s ongoing infrastructure and economic development create opportunities for high-quality hospitality offerings. With IHG’s brand systems and operational expertise, we aim to deliver a reliable and consistent stay experience for guests visiting the city.”
IHG currently operates 51 hotels across six brands in India, including Six Senses, InterContinental Hotels and Resorts, Crowne Plaza, voco Hotels, Holiday Inn Resort, and Holiday Inn Express. The company also has a pipeline of 89 hotels planned to open over the next three to five years.
