IHCL Signs Taj Hotel in Weligama, Strengthening Presence in Sri Lanka
The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has announced the signing of a Taj hotel in Weligama, Sri Lanka. The greenfield project will comprise 220 keys, including 80 apartments.

Commenting on the development, Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, IHCL, said, “Weligama is emerging as a key coastal destination, supported by the growth of surfing, wellness, and nature-based travel. With tourism showing steady progress in Sri Lanka, this development further expands the Taj brand’s footprint in the region. We are pleased to partner with Beryll Group on this project.”
Located in Sri Lanka’s Southern Province, Taj Weligama will be a beachfront resort overlooking the Indian Ocean. The hotel will offer an all-day dining restaurant, two speciality restaurants, a beach bar and grill, a bar and lounge, and a deli. Guests will also have access to the J Wellness Circle, a kids’ playroom, an entertainment zone, a gym, and a swimming pool.

For meetings and social events, the resort will feature a banquet hall and convention facilities covering over 9,000 sq. ft., along with meeting rooms and outdoor lawns.

Weligama, located along Sri Lanka’s southern coast, is known for its crescent-shaped bay, surf-friendly waters, and coastal setting.
