IHCL Announces Taj Hotel Project in Puducherry
The Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has announced the signing of a new Taj hotel in Puducherry, marking a greenfield development in the region.
Ms. Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President – Real Estate & Development, IHCL, said, “Puducherry continues to see growth in domestic tourism and a return of international travellers, strengthening its position as a leisure destination. The upcoming Taj Pondicherry will meet the increasing demand for large-scale social gatherings and events. We are pleased to collaborate with Mr. M.K. Rajagopalan on this project.”
Situated on 52 acres, the 180-key Taj Pondicherry will have a view of the Bay of Bengal. Located near White Town, the hotel will offer an all-day dining restaurant, two specialty dining venues, a bar and lounge, and wellness services as part of Taj’s J Wellness Circle. Additional amenities will include a gym, swimming pool, and various recreational spaces. The property will also boast extensive event areas, featuring an indoor banquet hall of 10,700 square feet and beachfront lawns for outdoor functions.
Mr. M.K. Rajagopalan of MGM Healthcare said, “We are glad to partner with IHCL for this hospitality project, which will serve as a key addition to the region’s accommodation and events landscape.”

Puducherry is known for its blend of French colonial heritage, coastal charm, and cultural attractions such as Auroville, Sri Aurobindo Ashram, and Oussudu Bird Sanctuary.
